A new client is now available for download. The main feature of this is to integrate Cisco's launcher to the default installation. It has many more features than the original did, saving of characters, saving of action presets and no more need for .Net framework 4.0!

You shouldn't have to uninstall the previous version anymore, it should handle all that for you.

Unfortunately, there haven't been any updates to the actual HS client itself. We're still working on getting that one up and running and aren't currently in a position to give an ETA.

Enjoy.

This update made the skill needed rely directly on the complexity of the weapon rather than having different levels.

Regarding items requiring skill greater than 75, I believe the idea is to implement items with +tech stats, so that if a player wants to they can become a specialized fabber with all the correct gear, rather than just maxing the skill.

Regarding items created with a complexity greater than 75, well, you currently are unable to fabricate them so there is no issue. You wouldn't have been able to use them beforehand due to the complexity would still have increased, so nothing really has changed.

Rather than generating the items on the fly like blitz did we have written the stats for each individual item at each plus. This means that it's actually a fabrication recipe, so yes, you will get failures.

When running the server edition of ubuntu, it really isn't much different to any other distro other than the fact it provides a nice collection of repos.

In addition, since we are renting servers we had a choice of pre-determined operating systems to use. It's extra trouble for the sake of it to requesting them to stick custom distros on.

The game server status is now indicated by the small icon in the top right of the page. It's green if the server's up, red if it's down. It's updated every minute, but obviously you have to refresh the page to get the new status.

If anyone wants the api details for retrieving server status for your own site, PM me or something.

No, there aren't two servers running. Ignore the second server please smile

I've uploaded a V2 which works fine. Visual studio had linked two projects it shouldn't have, which in turn packaged an unfinished launcher release into the installer. It's all fixed now! smile

NOTE: This is no longer relevant. It is only kept here for historical purposes.
You're all probably aware that I was working on a system that allowed the end-user to create their own characters, to reduce the demand for us to continually check the 'Request an account' section.

Well, it's finished. To use it, you must first register for a game account on the main page (http://hostilespace.co.uk in the left navigation panel). Upon doing this, you can now login to your game account using the link on the homepage. You should now be confronted with the account page. Here is displayed a list of your characters. If you already have a character, you will need to use the "Add an existing character" button and add it to your account.

If you want to create a new character, use the 'Create a character' button. I urge you to read the text on that page before rushing ahead and filling in the boxes, it will save us lots of space on the forum! smile

Please Note: Characters cannot currently be deleted. If you mess up, or forget the password, you will have to wait for either myself or Supa to ammend it.

After a character has been created, login using the launcher like any other time.

It's a shame hmm

It won't have saved login information, so you'll have to re-enter all of that. The logs say you're entering the incorrect password.

Would just like to apologize for the downtime, it's pretty much completely my fault. Messing up the client patching, followed by a rushed build of the installer, that I also subsequently broke.

After building this, assuming it was all Ok I had proceded to remove the harddrives from the build machine (maintenance stuff), which then left me without a machine to rebuild on when I realised the uploaded update was broken. It took me a while to build the update again on my other machine, and that's pretty much the reason for the downtime.

I apologize.

Are you looking in the Applications or Processes tab in task manager? If you click End Process on it in the processes tab, and then try to start it again do you have the same issue?

The changelog is detailed in the MOTD (Message of the Day/Captains Log) ingame, but basically it introduces updated object images (brood plates, keys, some new weapon images), doubles the locker size and fixes some labels. Below is how to update. Note: If you are on a 64-bit operating system, please see the additional notes before following the steps.

Update Procedure

  1. Download the client update from http://hostilespace.co.uk/Uploads/Update_1607.exe

  2. Run the client update

  3. When you are presented the dialog box asking you where you would like to extract to, enter
"C:\Program Files\InterAdventure\HostileSpaceRevived" (without quotes, assuming you installed to C:)

  4. Click Yes or Yes to All if asked to overwrite files

  5. Your client should now be updated. Restart the launcher if you haven't already, and give it a go.

Additional Notes

  • If you are on a 64-bit operating system, you will need to enter the following string, rather than that detailed above:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\InterAdventure\HostileSpaceRevived"

Just a few things.

I've been working on getting character pages functional, I'm getting there. It's taking much longer than i anticipated, mail servers not playing along, and then the importer stuff breaking due to an increase in the game-server tickrate. It shouldn't be long now til auto char creation is working. I've also updated all pages to now be .php rather than .html, if you're still being linked to a .html from somewhere please post so I can repair the link.

I've noticed that we have started to get some spam posting, I'm going to be adding an extra captcha on the registration page to tackle that, so don't be alarmed if you see two in the future.

Ok, work on the game accounts/character management stuff is taking a tad longer than expected, but it will be done soon!

We have noticed that we have some forum users registering that aren't actually doing anything, they haven't posted etc. We suspect this may be some type of spam-bot or similar. Because of this, I have enabled e-mail verification for new accounts and plan to replace the default captcha with recaptcha.

If anyone is having issues in regard to registering on the forum, send an e-mail my way (epl.4000@gmail.com) detailing the issue and i'll fix try to fix it ASAP.

The client had been patched so that Life Support showed instead, as hull, only the hull didn't actually do anything. This has now been patched serverside, it now provides hull big_smile

Yesterday, a main site went up with a few pages. It's just got the basics, and should suffice until we get something better =P I haven't quite worked out what's going to populate the first landing page yet, currently it's just some news although I don't see much need for that if it's also here. I'll have to have a think.

Tonight i updated the forum theme to match the homepage. Would like to hear feedback and what you think. Please alert me if I've missed any elements or anything doesn't fit/look right. I'll work to fix it!

The server host is having issues with DDoS attacks, hence the downtime. Not sure when it'll stop.
