Topic: Client Update + Guide

The changelog is detailed in the MOTD (Message of the Day/Captains Log) ingame, but basically it introduces updated object images (brood plates, keys, some new weapon images), doubles the locker size and fixes some labels. Below is how to update. Note: If you are on a 64-bit operating system, please see the additional notes before following the steps.

Update Procedure

  1. Download the client update from http://hostilespace.co.uk/Uploads/Update_1607.exe

  2. Run the client update

  3. When you are presented the dialog box asking you where you would like to extract to, enter
"C:\Program Files\InterAdventure\HostileSpaceRevived" (without quotes, assuming you installed to C:)

  4. Click Yes or Yes to All if asked to overwrite files

  5. Your client should now be updated. Restart the launcher if you haven't already, and give it a go.

Additional Notes

  • If you are on a 64-bit operating system, you will need to enter the following string, rather than that detailed above:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\InterAdventure\HostileSpaceRevived"

Re: Client Update + Guide

Ok now that I've updated it the launcher won't open. I can see Launcher.exe in the task manager but it wont actually load. Any thoughts?

Re: Client Update + Guide

Are you looking in the Applications or Processes tab in task manager? If you click End Process on it in the processes tab, and then try to start it again do you have the same issue?

Re: Client Update + Guide

There's a problem with the launcher source, have you updated the website links to the feed etc Angus?

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Re: Client Update + Guide

OK I still cant get in lol. The place I had originally saved my HS files I chose as the directory for the update. It asked if I wanted to overwrite the files, I pressed yes to all. Now I cant get anything to launch and I get an unhandled exception any time I try to do anything in the launcher.

I'm thinking maybe I should just delete it all and download the files fresh?

When you get the exception, does it give you an option to continue? If so, click it and the launcher should come up. Sounds like your getting the same thing I was. the 3rd server, which handles the news feed on the launcher and whatnot was down earlier. Still could be. This was causing my issue.

If the problem is just with the launcher, just press Continue as DeathZero said here.  This is just a problem connecting to the news server and someone didn't use a try catch{} block *tisk tisk!*.

If you want to avoid having to go through all that, once you have run the launcher once and successfully loaded the game you can just run hsclient.exe directly (if you are not switching characters) to avoid the launcher altogether since your information is already saved.

Thats the log it gave me.

I had serious problems getting the client to load myself, which is when I found this post. I am currently downloading the new client as I had not done that. I assume that will fix the problem. Perhaps that is what you need to do as well.

Re: Client Update + Guide

its totally goosed, I can press continue but on the very initial launch bit which shows the SB picture and has V1.0 underneath it stops there and any time I press the LMB it beeps at me... I will try to d/l the newer client thing but when I tried last night it just kept giving an error on the page.

Re: Client Update + Guide

OK Update - now the site is back to normal I was able to d/l the new HS launcher (mine was really old and past saving lol).
It then installed HS properly (including to program files). I then applied the patch and all works well.

So if anyone has any probs, delete ur game, download the new client from the link at the top of the forums, then apply the patch as above and it should work fine.

Re: Client Update + Guide

I'm still struggling. When i click login, it goes to load the game but just before you see the SB picture i get an error saying "DirectDraw init Failed" i've tried uninstalling and re-installing but to no avail. Even tried re-downloading the client and patching that but had no luck either.

-----------------------------

Okay now for some reason i get past the SB picture and see a black screen saying connected but i get an error msg poping up "Error 2, Launch Shell error"

so i might be in the wrong thread to post this now, as i dont know if the update caused it to go wacko or if it is just a coincidence that the errors happened when the update was released.
